Above is a picture of a project that was started on 6th January 2003. The work was carried out in two parts the first was to adapt the internal layout to allow for easy wheelchair access. Stage two was to provide access to the first floor maisonette, this was done by taking down the old staircase and replacing it with a custom built flight of stairs that will have a chair lift fitted to them and also be completely covered in. While the work was carried out the people that live at the property had to move out. As you will see from the following photos there is a lot of work and skill that has gone into the construction of the stairs and all trades have had to work very closely together so that the final finish is one that works for the client. As you can imagine this staircase has given the people that live here a lot better quality of life. Below are some pictures that have been taken at different stages of the project.
The picture above shows the porch being constructed. As you can see from this picture the stairs goes over the entrance to the flat below, so what we have done is incorperated a porch below as part of the contruction.
The picture above shows the entrance to the bottom of the staircase and as you can see the chair lift is there and ready to go.
The picture above shows you a view as you come out of the front door of the maisonette.
This picture above gives you a view as you approch the property that has had the alterations done and as you can see access to the porch has been made easy with the installation of the ramp up to the front door of the porch.
The picture above shows some of the internal alterations that were done as part of this project. In this picture is a low level shower tray that was supplied by Go Independent http://www.goin.co.uk/ the tray will allow access into the shower for a person in a wheelchair or with limited mobility.
